Post 2, The 180 degree rule

The 180 degree rule is when two or more characters are in dialogue and the camera is positioned on one side of the two characters throughout the scene, the camera can be moved anywhere throughout so long as it remains the same side of the characters. If the camera crossed the line the characters would swap sides on screen and this would confuse the audience. An example of crossing the line would be in the film The Shining.
