Colour & Lighting

When we get to our evening section of our thriller, we will try and enhance the lighting on her face in the foreshadowing also to really emphasise the importance; but also making sure the whole of her face isn't visible and just the bottom.

We will use a Bourne-esque colour filter over the whole evening section which is a sort of grainy grey/blue to make it more atmospheric. Our aim is to make the lighting minimal but also clear enough so that you can see what is going on.

Composition

Composing our shots we will try and make it look as natural and as normal as possible. Because our Thriller is aiming to be fairly realistic we need to try and recreate this by using more believable compositions and shots.

Continuity Editing

Each shot we use will be timed well and shot in the right area to make our thriller as smooth as possible. We will use a match on action after the foreshadowing to keep the audience engaged and understanding that this is a different place. We will use a flash here to show when we pan down that it is also a different time.
We will also film a short timelapse to show time passing, this will be useful as it automatically shows time passing by within a few seconds without any need to shoot in a different light for the next scene to make out it is in the evening for example.

To also make our thriller easier to follow we will try and change each shot location fairly fast so when our actor is walking she does not change speed with each cut, which will hopefully make our whole video as smooth as possible.

Story Board, Two Animatics - Adam

This is the first animatic which is 2:29, the final edited Thriller should be shorter.

This is the second animatic with directors commentary. The length of the commentary is 12:22. I am aware that the post-it notes are slightly hard to see what is written on them.

Body language and facial expression-Frances

There will be many extreme close ups in our thriller opening so facial expressions and body language will be a key element in making it look professional. The body language used by Steve the main character will be dominant positions as he is the main character and is also the protagonist. The body language used by the young girl in the thriller will be small shaping of body and not very confident positions as this will show her fear. The facial expressions used by Steve will be angry and scary. The scene we shot in the woods the young girl characeters face was scared and expressionless which fits in with the events that are occuring at this moment in our thriller. In the last scene there is an extreme closeup of the young girl characters hand shaking excessivley this allows the audience to feel the fear and terror she is feeling.

Setting-Frances

Mise en scene: The settings we are using for our thriller opening are a wood, a house, a street and in a car. The majority of the filming will be done in the woods. By filming our thriller opening in the woods it creates an eery atmosphere and creates questions for the audience. For variety of scene, we used two different houses for our filming. We used these locations because the target audience could easily recognise the mise en scene and it gives a sense of realism.
When we were filming our last few shots in the
woods it was dark which created a terrifying, eery atmosphere which fit nicely with the shot that was being filmed.

Storyboard

Final storyboard rough before drawn on sticky notes,  includes transitions and composition notes.

Audience Feedback - Adam

These are screenshots from Survey Monkey which have the questions from the questionaire created for our group to get feedback on our Thriller. This questionaire was posted on FaceBook.

Here is some of the results:

Sound Planning - Adam

To record sound on set we would use a microphone to pick up noises which can later be used to enhance sounds which may sound quiet on just the camera footage.

We could use GarageBand for sound effects, or use a foley (make the sounds ourselves).

We intend to have dialogue in the Thriller opening, however, this is not going to last very long (20 seconds worth of dialogue in total) and would only be in a few shots.

In the Thriller in the opening shots we would like to have dreamy sounding background music to create a sad mood. Not a lot of background music would be needed so that the Thriller can seem more realistic. Background music would be used to show a tense moment or to create suspense, most likely created by trumpets, tubas, trombones, maybe violins etc. which can made using software such as GarageBand.

Experiments & Rehearsals

Experimenting with Timelapse which I feel could look quite effective in our thriller as it communicates time passing well.

Costume-Frances

When the girl is laying injured in the woods she wears normal casual clothes however they are blood-stained and ripped. The two men who capture the young girl outside the night club are dressed all in black and wearing black balaclava's to hide their faces. The mother of the young girl will be wearing casual day time clothing as she will be filmed in the location of the house so her costumes fits in with her surroundings. The pedophile is going to wear casual clothes with blood stains on. When Lauren the young girl is getting ready to go out for the night she will wear a dressy and skirt and top.

Hair and Makeup-Frances

In our thriller opening we will have a lot of blood and cuts. The cuts will be made by dried pva glue and then painted to look realistic. Blue and purple paint and eyeshadow's will be used to make the bruises on the body look realistic. Foundation for faces of the actors to neutralise the face from the lighting and to stop it looking shiny in the camera. The makeup we used for the makeup of the young girl after she's been attacked is we usd black eye shadow to give her a black eye to make it look like she had been hit in the face. Also we dripped blood from her eye, ear and mouth and gave her a bloody wound on her forehead. The young girl is filmed applying on red lipstick in the scene before she is due to be going out, by her applying this red lipstick it makes it clear to the audience that she is going out that evening.

Props Annie

These are the props we will need for our Thriller opening.

We used a car (FORD) for the male character to drive around, we also use it for a point of view shot from the inside of the car. We used this type of car for a sense of realism and it shows that the thriller opening is set in modern day times.

The only other prop we used is a stick, this prop is used as a form of weapon against the main female character and we found it in our setting.

Permission Annie

We need no further permission for filming in our locations.

Target Audience Annie

The intended target audience for our thriller opening is aimed at 12-15 year olds, using the modern day social surroundings, as the audience can relate to certain aspects of the story, giving them a greater understanding on what is happening. This story also creates a realisation of the dangers young people or this era can experience.

Examples ofThrillers with a target audience between 12-15:

The Boy Next Door:  http://bbfc.co.uk/releases/boy-next-door-2014

A Walk Among Tombstones: http://bbfc.co.uk/releases/walk-among-tombstones-2014

These films appeal to the target audience by being able to relate and they use storylines that could easily appeal and attract a teenage audience.
